Bad Weather, Good Fun: Highlife Adventures Members Active Year-Round

CHICAGO, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- As winter closes in on Chicagoland, busy professionals determined to spend a little less time at the office might be tempted to hunker down and wait until spring or summer to get out and meet new friends. But thanks to a spike in membership every January and a full calendar of indoor events, the winter months are actually the perfect time to join an events and adventures organization -- no matter how bad the weather is, says Mary Vallone, president of Highlife Adventures (http://www.highlifeadventures.com), Chicago's premier events and adventures club for singles. "Each year we see a lot of new faces at Highlife Adventures during and right after the New Year's holidays," Vallone said. "It's the time of year that people resolve to be more active, to meet more people, and have more fun. And throughout the winter we plan over 50 events each month, both indoors and out, so there's literally something for everyone." A quick glance at the organization's social calendar shows that to be true. Activities planned for Highlife Adventures members this winter include Blackhawks games, indoor SCUBA lessons, murder mystery dinners, yoga lessons, trapeze lessons, limo scavenger hunts, snow tubing and more. New member icebreakers and member socials are scheduled for every month, making it easy for people to feel comfortable participating in events. So who typically joins events and adventures clubs? Just about anyone. Highlife Adventures reports its 2,500 members are single, usually between the ages of 25 and 49, with diverse backgrounds. Many are active professionals who don't have the time they once did to meet new people. Nearly all join Highlife Adventures by themselves, and most are eager to try new activities, learn new skills or enjoy a larger circle of friends. "What people won't find at Highlife Adventures is a dating or matchmaking service of any kind," Vallone explained. "We are a members-only club, but our members are perfectly capable of meeting each other and taking a friendship to another level if that's what they want to do. We do interview every applicant to make sure our members are safe and comfortable at all our events, but our primary focus at Highlife Adventures is on having fun, trying new things, and meeting new people with similar interests. People don't stop wanting to do those things just because it's snowing. And with us, they don't have to."
